Quantify qDevice Not Working? Smart Switch Replacement | Cync Electrical Sydney
Orphaned platform Quantify qDevice · qLiving

When the app dies,
the switches shouldn't follow.

Quantify's qDevice smart switches went into apartments and homes across NSW — then the company changed direction, and the platform behind them stopped moving. We replace qDevices with current smart hardware on Apple Home or Google Home, and your walls never wait on a startup again.

Quick answer

What happened to Quantify Technology? Quantify was a Perth-based, ASX-listed company whose Wi-Fi qDevice switches — qDimmer, qPower+, qBlind — were installed in NSW apartment developments and homes. The company acquired Zimi and renamed itself Zimi Limited, moving to the Zimi platform. The original qDevice range and its qLiving app are no longer sold or actively developed. Because qDevices depended on the Quantify cloud for setup and configuration, owners are left with switches that work at the wall but can't be re-paired, reprogrammed or voice-controlled. Cync Electrical replaces qDevices with current smart hardware on Apple Home or Google Home. Greater Sydney, apartments and strata included.

Sound familiar?

How an orphaned qDevice system behaves

qDevices switch locally, so the wall buttons often still work — which makes the decline easy to miss until you change something.

Changed your Wi-Fi router and switches won't re-pair
qLiving app can't find your devices or won't sign in
Scenes and dimming levels frozen — can't be edited
Voice control via Alexa or Google stopped responding
A failed switch can't be replaced — no stock, anywhere
Moving in and can't set the system up at all
The short version

What happened to Quantify

2017 – 2020

qDevices ship in volume

Quantify's Wi-Fi switches went into NSW apartment projects and homes through commercial distribution — touch-panel dimmers, power points and blind controllers, all set up through the Quantify cloud and qLiving app.

2021

The company changes course

Quantify acquired Australian smart switch maker Zimi and later renamed itself Zimi Limited, putting its future into the Zimi platform rather than the original qDevice range.

Today

A platform with no path forward

The qDevice range is no longer sold or actively developed, and there's no supported way to migrate the switches to another app. Once you need to change anything, you're stuck.

What we do

A clean swap to hardware with a future

qDevices sit in standard Australian wall boxes on standard cabling — so current smart switches drop straight in. No rewiring, no wall damage.

Count & quote

We audit every qDevice switch point — dimmers, power points, blind controllers — and give you a fixed, written quote. For most apartments this is a single short visit.

Swap every switch

Each qDevice is removed and replaced like-for-like with current, supported smart hardware chosen to match your loads and your wall plates. One clean changeover, usually one day.

Set up your new interface

Every light, power point and blind lands in Apple Home or Google Home — scenes, schedules, voice and remote access on the platform your phone already speaks. We hand over with everything named, grouped and working.

Whole building fitted with Quantify? We do strata.

qDevices went into NSW apartment developments by the hundreds. We run building-wide replacement programs: one common audit, fixed per-apartment pricing, and floor-by-floor scheduling that keeps disruption to hours, not days.

Questions from qDevice owners

Why do my wall switches still work if the platform is dead?
qDevices were designed to switch locally, with the Quantify cloud handling setup, configuration and voice. That's why the buttons still respond — and why everything else has quietly stopped. The system is frozen exactly as it was last configured, and the first router change, failed switch or new owner breaks the spell.
Can qDevices be reprogrammed or moved to another app?
No. qDevices were a proprietary platform with their own apps and cloud, and there's no supported migration path to anything else. Replacement with current hardware is the reliable fix — and because they sit in standard wall boxes, it's a straightforward swap.
Do I need rewiring?
Generally no. qDevices install on standard cabling in standard Australian wall boxes, so current smart switches and dimmers fit straight in. It's a switch swap plus setup, not a rewire.
What do you replace them with?
Current, widely supported smart switchgear matched to your loads — chosen so it works natively with Apple Home and Google Home rather than through another small vendor's cloud. We'll recommend specific hardware in your quote based on your dimmers, blinds and plate styles.
Apple Home or Google Home?
iPhone households usually pick Apple Home — the interface is excellent and it ties into Siri, Apple Watch and iPad. Android or mixed households usually pick Google Home. Either way, you end up on a platform with billions of devices behind it, not one company's app.
What does it cost?
It scales with the number of switch points, so we quote after a quick audit — usually a single visit for an apartment, with a fixed written price before any work starts. For buildings, we prepare a per-apartment strata proposal.
